HP Sure Click Pro

How to enable Virtualization Technology in the BIOS

You may encounter the following errors when installing or running HP Sure Click Pro on your computer:

  1. HP Sure Click may not work fully, please resolve the following: Enable Virtualization Technology from BIOS.

  2. HP Sure Click requires VT-x to be enabled.

HP Sure Click Pro uses virtualization to protect your computer from malware contained in files downloaded from the internet. If virtualization is disabled on your computer, you will need to enable it in order to use HP Sure Click Pro. You will need to restart your computer as part of this process.

HP Sure Click Pro is available for computers running Windows 10 with an Intel processor that supports Virtualization Technology or an AMD processor that supports AMD-V. To check whether your computer supports virtualization, open Task Manager (press CTRL + ALT + DELETE or use the search), select the Performance tab and look for Virtualization in the right-hand column.

To enable virtualization on your computer:

  1. Ensure you have these instructions available on a separate device or print a paper copy.
  2. Open the UEFI or BIOS settings for your computer:
    1. Click the Windows menu and select Settings (or search for Settings).
    2. From the Settings window select Update & Security.
    3. From the left-hand menu select Recovery.
    4. Under Advanced start-up click Restart now.
    5. Select Troubleshoot and then select Advanced options.
    6. Select UEFI Firmware Settings and then click Restart.

If the UEFI Firmware Settings option is not listed, your computer does not support UEFI. To enable virtualization, you will need to boot to the BIOS by restarting your computer and pressing the BIOS boot key before Windows starts. The BIOS boot key varies by manufacturer. Please refer to the manufacturer’s guidance for more information:

  3. The UEFI/BIOS settings vary by computer manufacturer and model. Look for a setting or settings labelled Virtualization, Virtualization Technology, VT-x, VT-d, Extended Page Tables, EPT, Vanderpool or AMD-V and enable all of them. These settings may be listed under a menu labelled Security, Advanced, Configuration or CPU Configuration. You may need to use your laptop’s built-in trackpad or keyboard to navigate the options.

Caution: Do not change any other UEFI/BIOS settings without referring to the manufacturer’s guidance first.

  4. Click Save or Apply (if available) and then click Exit or Restart.
  5. Once your computer has restarted, you can use Task Manager to check whether virtualization is enabled as described above. If virtualization is not enabled, the setting change may not have been applied during restart. Completely shut down your computer and wait at least 30 seconds before restarting it.

Once virtualization is enabled, HP Sure Click Pro will initialize. On successful completion the HP Sure Click Desktop Console status will update to “Running”. HP Sure Click Pro will run in the background and protect your computer from malware contained in downloads and attachments.
